New Red Sox ace has second-best AL Cy Young odds; win total prop at 84.5

With spring training getting underway in about 10 days, the focus continues to be on if teams like the Red Sox will make last-minute additions to fortify their rosters. But at this point, it’s also time to look forward to the 2025 season and what actually might take place on the field.

In that vein, betting markets have opened up for the upcoming MLB season with the public able to bet on the 2025 World Series champion, division winners, win totals and awards. Here’s a quick look at where those markets have some Red Sox-related lines, via DraftKings Sportsbook.

  • New ace Garrett Crochet has the second-best odds to win the AL Cy Young award at +600 (6/1). Crochet didn’t receive votes last year, in large part due to a low innings total. The only pitcher with better odds for 2025 is Detroit’s Tarik Skubal (+400), who is looking to go back-to-back. Other Red Sox on the list: Tanner Houck (30/1), Kutter Crawford (100/1) and Brayan Bello (150/1).

    * Both Roman Anthony (+650) and Kristian Campbell (+750) are squarely in the early Rookie of the Year mix. Boston has two of the three favorites for Rookie of the Year with Anthony posting the second-best odds (13/2) and Campbell (15/2) coming in third. The favorite is Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez at +450 (9/2). Interestingly, Marcelo Mayer isn’t listed. Kyle Teel, who was traded to the White Sox for Crochet, is 40/1.

    * Neither Rafael Devers or Jarren Duran are considered major AL MVP favorites. That title goes to Aaron Judge at 3/1 (+300) with Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. (9/2, +450) right behind him. Devers has the ninth-best odds at +2500 (25/1) with Duran, who finished eighth in last year’s race, tied for the 10th-best odds at 3500 (35/1). Triston Casas is +6500 (65/1).

    * No one is close to the top on the home run prop list. Devers is +5500 (55/1) to lead baseball in homers. Casas is +15000 (150/1) in that category.

    * Crochet has the third-best odds (+1100) to lead MLB in strikeouts. The favorite is Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes at 6/1 (+600), then it’s Skubal at 19/2 (+950) and Crochet (11/1). Old friends Chris Sale (25/1) and Nick Pivetta (55/1 without a team) are ahead of Crawford (100/1), Houck (150/1) Walker Buehler (150/1) and Bello (200/1)

    * Boston’s over-under is set at 84.5 wins. That would mark a 3-4 win improvement from 2024, when the team was 81-81. Over 84.5 is set at -120; under 84.5 is at +100. That projection has the Sox finishing third in the AL East behind the Yankees (92.5), Orioles (88.5) and ahead of the Rays (80.5) and Blue Jays (77.5). If you’re wondering, the Dodgers are at 103.5.

    * The Red Sox are +450 (9/2) to win the American League East. Again, behind the Yankees (+115) and Orioles (+230) and ahead of the Rays (+850) and Blue Jays (+1800). The Red Sox are -120 to make the playoffs and +100 (even) to miss.

    * Boston is tied for the ninth-best odds to win the World Series at 25/1 (+2500). The Sox are tied with the Rangers and Diamondbacks. Teams ahead of Boston: Dodgers, Braves, Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Astros, Orioles and Padres.

    * Boston is tied for the sixth-best odds to win the American League at 12/1 (+1200). The Sox are tied with the Mariners and Guardians and are slightly ahead of Detroit and Kansas City. Teams ahead of Boston: Yankees, Astros, Orioles, Rangers and Twins.
