These questions have been fueled, at least in part, by Guzman's recent Instagram Stories. In a video, the actor says the following: “9-1-1 — part of the legacy. Stage 6, I’ll miss ya. Seven years. That’s crazy.” Although this may sound like the actor is bidding farewell to the ABC drama, he is likely only referencing the fact that the first-responder series will no longer film at Stage 6 on the Fox lot. Sources further clarified to Deadline that Guzman is expected to remain with 9-1-1 and is not leaving. The video is below:
What Guzman's Exit Rumors Mean For 9-1-1
He Has Taken A Backseat Recently
Although this latest update should underline that Guzman won't be the next cast member to leave before the already-confirmed 9-1-1 season 9, fans have had reason to worry. The actor has missed out on a few crucial episodes, including the two-parter that featured Bobby's death. Perhaps even more troubling, Eddie is only on-screen for mere minutes in the aftermath of Bobby's death. This promoted speculation that the actor was being phased out.
Guzman's video stems from the fact that Disney, which produces 9-1-1 via its 20th Television banner and owns ABC, has opted not to renew its lease with the Fox lot. Disney productions, including 9-1-1, will film in Burbank moving forward. But that does not address the fact that Eddie, outside some focus on his Texas storyline, has become more of a recurring character in the latter half of season 8.
Our Take On Eddie's 9-1-1 Future
The Finale Can Still Save It
Even though the Texas storyline has led to a decrease in terms of the focus on Guzman's character, there was one bright spot in the fact that Eddie's relationship with his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) was beautifully spotlighted in the 9-1-1 episode "Invisible". The finale could do a lot of good, at least as far as zeroing in on Eddie's feelings about losing Bobby and putting Diaz back with the 118.
