The world of The Walking Dead is the gift that just keeps on giving. The saga of this undead universe has persisted even beyond the end of the show that started it all, continuing to entertain its devoted fans all around the world with new installments focused on some of its most beloved characters. For better or worse, The Walking Dead lives... and you can't fault it for that.
The era of the spinoffs has presented viewers with new and unique stories that simply couldn't have been told in the original show. From Daryl Dixon's trek across France to Maggie and Negan's uneasy reunion in Manhattan, the scale is larger and the episode count smaller, allowing each one of these new stories the chance to be as cinematic as possible. It's worth it for the visual approach alone. But, as always with the TWD Universe, they bring all the drama we could have asked for too.
Now, a new series that fans might not have known about is pulling back the curtain and giving us an insight into how this new chapter of the TWD Universe is coming together. They even feature a crossover of sorts between two of the three new spinoffs.
Behind The Dead previews Daryl Dixon season 3, pulls back the curtain for Dead City season 2
A new YouTube series hosted on The Walking Dead's official YouTube account is giving us a glimpse behind the camera. Titled Behind The Dead, it releases new episodes weekly and features behind-the-scenes looks at the most current seasons of the TWD Universe and allowing fans to see how all of it came - or is coming - to life.
Released as something of a bridge between The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3, the webseries shows us how some of the biggest moments of the former came together while also previewing what fans can expect from the latter.
The most recent installment of it features an interview with Dead City's Lauren Cohan as she opens up about what it was like directing episode 6 of the series and chatting a little bit about the iconic bear scene. Meanwhile, on the Daryl Dixon side of things, we are introduced to new character Paz, played by Alexandra Masangkay; the clip features interviews with both Masangkay and creator / showrunner David Zabel, who speak about what to expect from Paz.
Behind The Dead is a neat little way to "cross over" Dead City and Daryl Dixon, especially given how their current seasons' runs are in close proximity with each other (the former ran throughout the summer while the latter with premiere in September). Although it's not an official confirmation that characters from either show will cross paths with each other in the foreseeable, it's a nice nod to the original series and a clever way to ensure that fans of either one stay up to date with the other.
Daryl Dixon season 3 is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 7 and it will take Daryl and Carol Peletier to Spain. The pair reunited in season 2 when Carol saved her best friend from one of his many near-death experiences and they have been together ever since. But when the chunnel taking them to the UK, part of the season will take place in London as they eventually navigate their way across Europe in the hopes of making it back to the US. With the official confirmation that season 4 will be the show's last, fans are expecting them to do that in the near-future.
As for Dead City, AMC recently renewed it for a third season, confirming that more adventures await Maggie and Negan. They aren't quite as far away from Alexandria as Daryl and Carol, but fans are beginning to wonder if this will be the beginning of the end for this spinoff too, and if its primary duo will be able to make their way back to their former home too. Could a reunion with Daryl and Carol be on the cards?
There is a hope among fans that, when Daryl Dixon and Dead City both conclude, AMC will find a way to greenlight one last major crossover to allow the characters of both spinoffs to reunite with The Ones Who Live's Rick Grimes and Michonne, as well as other characters from The Walking Dead. It would be the ultimate endgame, as Lauren Cohan herself feels, and it's something that fans have been waiting to see for a very long time - especially since Rick and Michonne actually exited the original series five years before it ultimately ended.
In the meantime, however, the closest that fans can get to a crossover between any of the TWD spinoffs is Behind The Dead, all while getting some exciting and unique behind-the-scenes stories at the same time. Honestly, this is the content we came for!
