New York Jets Add Foundational Non-QB Prospect in New NFL Draft Projection

New York Jets bổ sung triển vọng phi QB cơ bản vào dự thảo NFL mới

After announcing their plans to move on from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the new-look New York Jets have a key decision to make with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Taking a quarterback is an intriguing possibility. And one that ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. projected on Tuesday by tabbing the Jets to take Rodgers' replacement in Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.

However, nothing is certain at this time for head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, who enter the first year at the helm in New York.

Other options will continue to be evaluated in the pre-draft process, especially at the combine this week in Indianapolis. After all, quarterback play wasn't the only underwhelming area during the 5-12 season.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles McDonald, the Jets address a different aspect of the roster by adding one of the highest-rated non-quarterback prospects in the class.

In this scenario, LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell lands to New York at seventh overall after the top two quarterbacks – Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward – are taken within the first four picks.

"The Jets knocked it out of the park last season with the selection of Olu Fashanu, so here’s a running mate for him on the other side of the offensive line," McDonald wrote. "Fashanu and Will Campbell would give the Jets the offensive line foundation they missed on during the Joe Douglas years."

Campbell (6-foot-6, 320 pounds) is a two-time All-SEC First-Team selection and earned consensus All-American honors as a senior in 2024. The former four-star recruit also earned the SEC's Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the conference's top offensive lineman.

The Jets finished 17th in the league in sacks allowed (40) while finishing second-to-last in rush yards per game (91.8).

A potential addition like Campbell could provide a boost in protection and in the run game for whoever may take snaps in place of Rodgers next season.

Campbell is set to participate alongside his position group in the combine, with on-field drills scheduled for Sunday (NFL Network).
