NFL analyst says Eagles should sign former Falcons safety in free agency

Justin Simmons to Eagles? NFL Network suggests Philadelphia sign former Falcons safety

The Atlanta Falcons did not re-sign veteran safety Justin Simmons in free agency but added Jordan Fuller and selected Xavier Watts in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft. The team also drafted safety Billy Bowman in the fourth round.

With DeMarcco Hellams set to return after missing all of the 2024 season, Simmons' NFL career will have to continue elsewhere. But where will the former Pro Bowl safety land in 2025?

NFL Network's panel of analysts discussed potential landing spots for some of the top remaining free agents. Jeffri Chadiha thought the Philadelphia Eagles should sign Simmons and reunite him with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

"They lost C.J. Gardner-Johnson last year," said Chadiha. "Justin Simmons is the fourth-active leader in interceptions right now for players still playing -- with 32. I think he gives that secondary a boost."

Chadiha's colleague, Brian Baldinger, agreed that Simmons would be a good fit to fill the leadership void in Philadelphia.

"There's players there, but nobody with the numbers, the interceptions, like really, the leadership he can provide," said Baldinger. "They lost Darius Slay. They lost some leaders in that secondary. He provides that. He's another very, very smart guy. Understands the game. High football IQ."

Last season, Simmons recorded 36 solo tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended for the Falcons. The 31-year-old has never recorded fewer than two interceptions in a season over his nine-year NFL career.

Now that the draft is over, teams have a better idea of what positions they need to address. Simmons can still play and should have a new home by the time the 2025 season rolls around.
