The Minnesota Vikings have always traveled well overseas, but there are uncharted waters on the horizon.
Undefeated in international games with an 8-0 record, including exhibition games, the Vikings have become a favorite in the United Kingdom, especially, winning all four of their regular-season international games since 2013.
Minnesota has won two games in London, England, under Kevin O'Connell: in 2024, a 23-17 victory over the New York Jets last October; in 2022, a 28-25 win against the New Orleans Saints that was a treat to the soccer-crazed fans who saw Will Lutz convert a 60-year field goal before Greg Joseph's game-winning 47-yarder.
Given the Vikings' track record of success for getting their teams ready to play across the pond, the NFL has upped the ante, tasking them with an unprecedented feat for any team in league history
On May 13, the NFL announced that the Vikings will be the first team to play back-to-back international games this upcoming season and the first-ever NFL game in Ireland.
Minnesota is scheduled to face the Pittsburgh Steelers at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, on Sunday, Sept. 28, followed by a matchup with the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday, Oct. 5. Both games' kickoffs are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. CT, per a team release.
“Playing in Ireland’s first-ever NFL game is an opportunity to introduce new fans to the Minnesota Vikings and help the league continue to make the game of football more accessible globally,” Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf said in a statement. "Our experiences in London have always been memorable, so to return in 2025 as the first team to play in back-to-back international games in different countries was something we could not pass up. UK fans have a history of showing up and embracing the Minnesota Vikings, creating what often feels like a homefield environment, and we are hopeful that is what we see again in 2025.”
The NFL will announce the entire 2025 NFL season schedule on Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. ET.
