Saints QB homework is intriguing.
The New Orleans Saints could still draft a quarterback at the end of April. At least one NFL Insider believes that's a strong possibility.
SI.com's Albert Breer wrote about the team's situation with Derek Carr, Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart and Kellen Moore being there on Monday morning. Here's what he wrote.
We’d written over the past couple of weeks how the situation between the New Orleans Saints and Derek Carr was worth keeping an eye on—then how the team maxing out his restructure (taking his base salary to the minimum and converting the difference into a signing bonus) probably dashed any chance of a trade. What it didn’t dash, though, was the idea New Orleans could draft a quarterback. And along those lines, that Saints coach Kellen Moore was personally at Dart’s pro day isn’t insignificant.
The current state of the Saints quarterback room has Derek Carr, who the team has said publicly that they want him to be their guy in 2025 because he gives them the best chance of winning, Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and Ben DeNucci. New Orleans has six picks within the Top 150 and has been doing their homework on quarterbacks in this particular draft, which appears to be normal. In addition to Dart, they've got a closer look at Miami's Cam Ward and Texas' Quinn Ewers recently.
Regardless of what does happen with Carr, the future direction is certainly cloudy at best. We'll get a chance to catch up with Kellen Moore at the NFL League Meetings in West Palm Beach on Tuesday, where we might be able to get a little more insight on the Saints situation.
