NFL insider Ian Rapoport sees more signs pointing toward the Saints picking a QB in the draft

"The Saints do need a long-term solution," Rapoport said. "Say whatever you want about Derek Carr, he's not someone who's going to be the Saints quarterback for the next 10 years. In fact, there are plenty of times, Mike, where you and I talked about it, where we thought Derek Carr might not be the Saints quarterback this year."

The Saints re-affirmed their commitment to Carr after new head coach Kellen Moore was hired after Super Bowl LIX.

"The reason they put themselves in that position to restructure [Carr's] contract is because they didn't want to go into the draft absolutely needing a quarterback no matter what," Rapoport said. "They don't need a quarterback. They have one for this year."

Rapoport then re-stated a previous report about the Saints chances of drafting a new QB.

"They have done all the quarterback homework," he said. "They've been a heavy presence at Pro Days, they've had a presence at quarterback workouts, they have done all the background and homework checks. If there is a quarterback they like in the Top 10, for sure, they could take one. It sure would make a lot of sense. A quarterback would not have to play right away ... the Saints don't need one, but for sure, guys, they are a team that could end up taking a quarterback in late April."

In addition to the Dart projections, Cam Ward has publicly stated his desire to play for New Orleans, a franchise he grew up rooting for, and Deion Sanders has said his son would like to play for the team as a franchise near the top of the draft who are looking for quarterbacks.
