NFL Insider Shares Update on Bengals Star Trey Hendrickson: 'Hendrickson Wants to be in Cincinnati'

Bengals star defensive end Trey Hendrickson was given permission to seek a trade last week.

A trade hasn't happened, despite plenty of teams showing interest and it sounds like both Hendrickson and the Bengals could get back to the negotiating table and get something done.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network joined PHNX Sports to discuss Hendrickson's status.

"They are [entertaining trades], but they want significant compensation back," Garafolo said. "You're starting to hear a little bit more about how Hendrickson wants to be in Cincinnati and Hendrickson wants to make it work and all of a sudden it's like 'OK, this could pivot back the other way.'"

He added that Hendrickson was going to entertain the rest of the offers coming his way before making a decision about possibly returning to Cincinnati.

This makes sense. The Bengals need Hendrickson if they're going to field a championship level defense in 2025. And Hendrickson needs the Bengals to either sign off on a trade or on a new contract extension that gives him a significant pay raise.

“Trey wants to be in Cincinnati,” Bengals defensive tackle B.J. Hill said. “I know for a fact he loves Cincinnati. He loves the fans, he loves the community, he loves the team, coaches, everybody. He wants to be here at the end of the day."

The Bengals can sign Hendrickson to a contract extension at any time. For more on the NFL sack leader, check out my column on Hendrickson here.
