CINCINNATI — The Bengals gave permission to Trey Hendrickson to seek a trade last week.
The NFL sack leader and All-Pro pass rusher is entering the final year of his contract. He hasn't been traded, but Hendrickson's camp did seem to think the Bengals would be able to get a first round pick in return if they opted to trade him.
"It’s a tricky spot for Cincinnati to be in—finding a team to give up a premium pick and $30 million (or more) per year for a 30-year-old pass rusher isn’t easy," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer wrote. "Hendrickson’s camp at one point told the Bengals they could bring home a first-rounder for him, but that hasn’t happened."
Hendrickson has had 17.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons. He's certainly looking for a contract worth $30+ million per season.
The Commanders have the 29th overall pick. Could they be interested in sending a late first to Cincinnati in exchange for Hendrickson?
They're one of the only teams that would potentially give up a first rounder for him. They have a star quarterback on a rookie contract, plenty of pieces around him and they're certainly in "win-now" mode.
