NFL QB Rankings: Bills MVP Josh Allen Top Of The Mountain?

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had perhaps the best season of his NLF career in 2024, ending with him claiming the NFL MVP award for the first time.NFL QB Rankings: Bills MVP Josh Allen Top Of The Mountain?

Allen's numbers weren't as big as they had previously been, but he was more in control when operating Joe Brady's offense and was efficient with the ball. Allen also reeled in his turnovers, with only six interceptions in the regular season. Plus, Allen, as a runner, was again potent, rushing for 12 touchdowns and 531 yards to go with his 3,731 passing yards and 28 touchdowns.

It all added up to the Bills winning the division with half the season left and claiming a playoff spot with ease, as Allen was the key orchestrator in making Buffalo one of the most consistent teams in football.

But did he do enough to warrant being the No. 1 quarterback in football for NFL.com's Nick Shook? As it turns out, Allen came in at No. 2 in his quarterback rankings.

"Yep, the 2024 league MVP isn't the top-ranked player in this year's final QB Index," Shook writes. "One of the NFL's most effective running QBs, Allen seemed to make magic on a weekly basis as he led Buffalo to a 13-4 record and an AFC title game appearance. And though he was visibly nervous early in the playoff tilt at Kansas City, he ultimately settled in and nearly led Buffalo to its first Super Bowl appearance in decades. His inability to solve the Chiefs in the playoffs remains one of the few blemishes on his résumé. Perhaps he will in 2025."

Given that the MVP award for most was a flip of the coin between Allen and Lamar Jackson, in truth, there isn't much separating them here, either.

The Bills were superb on offense, averaging 30.9 points a game, which was the second-best in football, with Allen doing a grand job of finding his open receivers and putting up numbers, but more importantly, rarely turning the ball over.

Yes, the Bills didn't slay their bogeyman in the playoffs, but they managed to get to the AFC Championship game, and Allen was the MVP.

So 2024 wasn't all bad.
