NFL Reacts to the Death of Vikings Rookie Cornerback Khyree Jackson

News of Khyree Jackson’s death came across just as I was putting together BN Bears Bullets this morning. Since I’ve pressed publish on those this morning, a whole bunch of details have emerged. It’s equal parts sad and tragic. I almost don’t know how to propergly encapsulate such a story.

This is what we wrote this morning…

Khyree Jackson was a fourth-round pick (108th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Vikings. Jackson played collegiately for two power conference schools — Alabama and Oregon. After leaving the Crimson Tide for the Ducks, Jackson had his best year as a collegiate athlete as he earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort during this time. We extend our condolences.

… and here are some of the latest updates:

KHYREE JACKSON NEWS STORIES: ESPN | NFL Network

From the NFL Network story:

Jackson, who was the front passenger in a Dodge Charger, was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel, according to the MSP news release, following a three-car collision in Upper Marlboro. Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, were also killed in the crash.

All three of the deceased were travelling in the Charger, which was struck by a silver Infiniti headed northbound on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue, according to police. The preliminary investigation indicates that the Infiniti, driven by Cori Clingman, struck the Charger first and and then a Chevrolet Impala after attempting to change lanes at a high rate of speed. The Charger then traveled off the side of the road and struck multiple tree stumps before coming to rest, according to the release.

Reading that line “Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing circumstance in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation” is a gut punch. Please don’t drink and drive.
