Yes, he’s heard it.
Joseph Woll has become the star of a viral fan tribute. The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender has found himself at the center of a remix that reimagines the Oasis song ‘Wonderwall’ with a lyric twist, and he’s fully aware of it. Multiple edits have popped up across social media, syncing some of Woll’s best saves with the song.
The reworked lyrics have caught on quickly among Leafs fans:
Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all
You're my Joseph Woll
“Yeah. Kniesy was showing me that the other day,” Woll said with a laugh after Tuesday’s optional skate. “Yeah, it’s nice. It’s a nice little ring to it.”
Woll, who’s known to be a fan of music, with videos of him playing the piano circulating in the past, was asked if he’s an Oasis fan.
“I like Wonderwall, yeah,” he said.
Besides, ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Joseph Woll’ aren't far off, as the goaltender has been dubbed “the one that saves me” with the Leafs’ starter, Anthony Stolarz, going down in Game 1 after taking an elbow to the head from Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett.
As a result, the 26-year-old has been thrown into the action of the second-round series against the Panthers. While his early starts in the series were rocky, Sunday’s Game 4 effort in Florida was his best performance of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The netminder turned aside 35 of 37 shots in a 2-0 shutout loss, posting a .946 save percentage and keeping Toronto within one until midway through the third period – in a game they frankly didn’t deserve to be in. The team was outplayed for large stretches, but Woll gave them a chance, and for the first time this postseason, looked like the best version of himself.
Woll had helped the Leafs earn victories in Games 1 and 2 but struggled statistically with sub-.900 save percentages in each of his previous three starts in the series. In the postseason, Woll has a 2-1-1 record, a 3.51 goals-against average, and a .893 save percentage. However, his outing in Game 4 seems to have stirred him in the right direction, appearing to have regained some footing ahead of Wednesday’s Game 5.
Meanwhile, Stolarz has resumed skating and was spotted on the ice before Tuesday’s practice at Ford Performance Centre. The 31-year-old has reportedly been working his way back throughout the week, but there is no official timeline for his return, and given Woll’s most recent start, there’s no urgency, either.
After dropping both games in Florida, the Leafs will look for another strong performance from the former third-round pick as they look to regain the series lead on home ice.
“Just playing in front of our crowd is amazing. The two games that I've played here at home and in this series was awesome. We have special, special fans, and to be able to play in front of them and have them cheer us on is pretty awesome,” said Woll. “So, yeah, I'm excited to play for it tomorrow.”
