For a decent stretch of time earlier this offseason, the possibility of NFL pass-rushing brothers, Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa, both playing for the San Francisco 49ers at the same time seemed like an imminent reality.
After all, the signs were there for the Niners to ink the former Los Angeles Chargers standout after the Bolts made him an offseason cap casualty. Despite some notable concerns, namely the elder Bosa's injury history, the thought of having two pass-rushing brothers on the team at the same time was too good a scenario to bypass.
Except it never happened.
At what appeared to be the 11th hour, the Buffalo Bills swooped in and convinced the former Charger to join them instead, leaving Nick Bosa to ponder, "what if?"
Turns out, that what-if sentiment was real this offseason, even if for only a fleeting moment.
Nick Bosa admits to wanting Joey Bosa to join him on 49ers
Speaking to reporters from Niners organized team activities, Bosa was asked whether or not he thought his older brother would actually join him in the Bay Area earlier this offseason.
"Maybe for five minutes on the phone with...," the San Francisco All-Pro responded before realizing he probably couldn't admit anything that could be viewed as tampering by the league. "Maybe I can’t say that. Maybe for a moment."
When asked if it was excited to think about the possibility, Bosa admitted it was but also acknowledged "business is business."
Although, when asked who'd wear No. 97 (Joey Bosa wore that number, too), Nick Bosa didn't hesitate to name himself as the official number wearer had the two paired up.
It looks like such a pairing won't happen anytime soon, though, but one might want to point out Joey Bosa's contract in Buffalo is just for a single season.
Perhaps the Bosa Bros. will revisit this topic in a little less than a year's time.
