Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is not chasing quick wins; he’s all about building something that lasts.
Sirianni recently opened up about what he’s learned from studying some of the best in sports following Philly's 2024 championship season, from legendary players and coaches to even Olympian Michael Johnson.
His goal? Figure out what really leads to long-term success.
“I focused on sustained success,” Sirianni said. “What were the common denominators of different coaches that I talked to or players that I talked to, or [Olympian] Michael Johnson...what were the common denominators of sustained success?”
What he found was that it takes a ton of hard work, the ability to handle adversity, and the discipline to stay locked in on no matter the outcome. In other words, you can’t get too caught up in the past or too far ahead of yourself.
"The main thing is it takes what it takes, right? You’re going to have to be able to work extremely hard and you’re going to have to be able to overcome adversity," he said. "You always have to be right in the moment of where you are. As I’ve done research and talked to these guys and we’ve had an element of sustained success here as well, but you can have two ends of it. You rest on your laurels, you rest on your past accomplishments and you’re not here working or you’re looking too far ahead of how do we do this again."
Sirianni knows that just because you do everything the right way doesn’t guarantee you a victory. However, it does give you the best shot at it. That leaves the Eagles leaning into staying grounded, working hard, and simply trusting the process.
"We’re focused on our process and how we get better every single day," Sirianni said. "If your process is right, then it gives you the best chance to win. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to win, but it gives you the best chance to win.
"Our goal is just to focus and focus on where we are at this particular moment, to put the work in, to overcome the adversity and the rest will take care of itself.
