Notable Update On Flyers' Free Agency Plans Revealed cover image

The Philadelphia Flyers are entering this off-season with a good amount of cap space, as they have roughly $19 million to work with. Due to this, some have questioned if the Flyers will try to make a major splash in free agency this summer. However, based on a recent update, this appears to be unlikely.

According to The Athletic's Kevin Kurz, a source informed him that the Flyers won't target top free agents like Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner and Florida Panthers center Sam Bennett this summer.

This is certainly a notable update, as it indicates that the Flyers are unlikely to be among the NHL's biggest spenders in free agency this year. It is understandable, though, as the Flyers are still in the middle of their rebuild and can focus on improving their roster in other ways.

It will be interesting to see what kind of moves the Flyers make this off-season, even if they aren't planning to pursue this year's top pending UFAs. Re-signing restricted free agents Cam York and Jakob Pelletier should be on the agenda, and it would not be particularly surprising if they explore the trade market, especially for young, impactful players.
