This really isn't going to be a surprise to anyone. From the moment NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen decided to take a gamble on Daniel Jones, countless eyebrows were raised. Schoen, as you remember, gave Jones $160 million over four years.
With the way the QB market has shaped out, the contract wouldn't be looking that terrible had Jones performed well in 2023. Instead, he appeared in six games, throwing for only two touchdowns. Because of that, Bleacher Report of course included him on its list of worst contracts in the NFL, with Jones checking in as the 10th worst.
NY Giants QB Daniel Jones is in a make-or-break season for Big Blue
"Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract during the 2023 offseason. Even at the time, it seemed like an unnecessary risk for a player who'd never been anything above a league-average quarterback. Then, he struggled badly in six games before a knee injury last year. In 2024, Jones' cap number is just short of $47.9 million. Perhaps he puts together a resurgent season after the Giants drafted wide receiver Malik Nabers and bolstered the offensive line. If not, however, releasing Jones next offseason would mean he still counts $19.4 million against the 2025 cap. That's a real possibility, yet it'll sting anyway."

Unless Jones plays at a superstar level, all signs are pointing to him being released by the G-Men next winter. Some fans are holding out hope that he can prove all of his haters wrong, while others are already looking forward to the 2025 NFL Draft.
Back in 2022, Jones looked like a former first-round pick, finally putting things together during Year 1 of the Brian Daboll era. Last season, though, a 180 was recorded. Jones is making a lot of money and the time is now or never for him to back up his mega-deal.
If he has another rough year or he suffers a serious injury, then it will be time for the Giants to finally give up on this experiment and find someone else to try and get this team back to where they need to be. It's on Jones to make things happen for himself, and he has no excuses with an improved offensive line and Malik Nabers now in town.
