NY Jets legend endorses HC target: 'This needs to be our coach'

A New York Jets legend has a particular candidate in mind for the team’s head coach opening.

In a social media post, Victor Green emphatically supported Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to become the Jets’ next on-field leader.

“This needs to be our coach. He is so real and right. A lot of coaches don’t have this mentality. And I can speak to that firsthand. Hire the man. I may come out of retirement.”

Green’s support was in response to a clip posted of Glenn’s previous appearance on “The Pivot” podcast, where he spoke about being “relatable” as a coach.

“The players have to be able to sit down with you and have a conversation. So many players I have talked to said they never had a chance to talk with the coach. They never had a chance to have interaction or confrontation with a coach. I said tell me exactly what your issues are, and we can talk about it,” said Glenn.

Green also added thoughts about what Glenn could do for the team’s roster as head coach.

“This will be the HC we will be getting. He will hold everyone accountable. Trust!!!”

Green is the latest prominent figure to support Glenn as a candidate for the Jets’ job, and for good reason.

Whether through his work as a positional coach or defensive coordinator, the former defensive back has garnered rave reviews from players and coaches. He has widely been regarded as a “leader of men” and someone who would implement a winning culture in New York.

This does not even include Glenn’s history with the Jets, where he spent eight seasons as a standout cornerback. Glenn made back-to-back Pro Bowls with the team under head coach Bill Parcells (1997-98). He also spent two years in New York as a personnel scout (2012-13).

The offensive scheme and staff are questions that Glenn would have to answer, as they have been problems New York has tried to solve for an extended period of time. However, with his track record and reputation as a coach, there is a good chance that New York will trust him to get it right.
