San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Jon Feliciano announced his retirement from the league on Thursday via social media. Feliciano, who was set to become a free agent at the start of the new league year, called it a career following the conclusion of his 10th NFL season. The swing offensive lineman was originally drafted in the fourth round by the Oakland Raiders and went on to play for the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and 49ers.
Feliciano spent the last two years with San Francisco, calling the 2023 campaign "the best season of my career." The veteran offensive lineman was initially brought in to be a utility player and provide the 49ers with depth in the trenches. Instead, he earned his way to a starting right guard job over the course of the team's Super Bowl LVIII run.
An unfortunate knee injury and surgery ahead of the 2024 season derailed his final chapter in The Bay. He spent the year on the Injured Reserve list and was unable to return to action.
"After months of weighing my options, I realized I had to leave the game," Feliciano wrote on Instagram. "The fire is still there, but I know I can't last a full season and can't bring myself to let people down. Being on a team and unable to help out your boys is rough. That being said, Buffalo or SF, I'll be ready for a playoff run in December if you need me."
