Five years on from RHOA’s Snakegate and people may be wondering, a) how it’s been five years?! And b) where the ladies stand with one another these days. As reality TV lovers patiently wait for a fresh new batch of Real Housewives of Atlanta episodes, let’s take a look back at a memorable moment from the show.
Bravo‘s Real Housewives franchise is often full of fall-outs, spats, break-ups, and make ups. The Real Housewives of Atlanta is certainly no exception. Some of the OGs feuded for years, physical altercations were had and some former besties are still on bad terms to this day.
It’s been five years since #SnakeGate
As January 2025 rolls around, it’s officially been five years since ‘Snakegate’ went down on RHOA.
In true Kandi Burruss style, the former cast member asks her co-star, Nene Leakes, outright how details about Cynthia Bailey got “into the blogs.”
“Your letter… your exact wording… how did that end up in the blogs?” she asks Nene.
Cynthia came across this information online, seeing that things had been leaked about her, and Kenya Moore was convinced Nene sent it to the blogs.
Nene responds to Kandi’s question: “One thing that a person can tell you about Nene Leakes – I don’t ever talk to bloggers… point the finger at the person you don’t think…”
She then explains in a confessional how “Kenya is known for leaking things to the blogs…”
Nene recapped on how she’d heard Cynthia “lost the card then found it again” with the information that had been leaked. Before confirming it wasn’t her who leaked any details.
Then, RHOA’s snakeyness amps up a notch when Nene apparently gets wind that Cynthia has been talking badly of her, as a mutual friend between them “recorded a conversation.”
For the whole season, Cynthia says she “had anxiety” thinking of what she might have said in a tape, she explains during the RHOA reunion.
However, she concludes she was a “punk” because “it was all BS in the end.”
Yovanna Momplaisir was the prime suspect in Snakegate, but during the reunion, she says she never recorded anyone. But she does say she was asked by Nene to find out what was being said about her, per Bravo TV’s Daily Dish.
“The fact that Yovanna is here and Nene chooses not to be here is all I need to see,” says Cynthia.
But, Bravo also reports how in an interview during the episode, a producer asks Nene if Yovanna is the snake. Nene answers: “Snake is just a, not a nice word, OK? So I wouldn’t call her a snake. Is Yovanna the one with information? Yes.”
RHOA ladies are in a different place now
Maybe there was no recording at all, but Snakegate really caused a stir when it all went down during RHOA.
Years down the line it appears it’s all water under the bridge. Not only are Frick and Frack besties again, but after their long-lasting fallouts Cynthia and Nene also appear to be friends nowadays.
Even more shocking than Nene and Cynthia making up, Nene and her longtime enemy, Kenya, are also on good terms these days.
The two ran into one another at an airport recently and people were certain they have great “chemistry” and said they’re “missed” from the franchise.
As for Yovanna, it appears she’s still loving family life in Atlanta. But she’s only following Cynthia from the show on Instagram at the time of writing.
