As NBC’s One Chicago franchise enters a new era with fresh cast shakeups and shifting creative teams, co-creator and executive producer Dick Wolf is reassuring fans that the heart of the universe remains intact—and its future looks bright.

In a recent interview, Wolf emphasized that while Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are experiencing behind-the-scenes changes—including new showrunners and actor exits—the core values of the franchise will not be compromised.

“These shows were built to evolve,” Wolf said. “We’ve always known cast members would come and go. The important thing is that the stories stay grounded in character, community, and realism.”

Wolf also confirmed that all three series have been renewed through the 2025–2026 television season, affirming NBC’s continued confidence in the brand. He praised the network’s commitment and highlighted the franchise’s loyal viewership: Wednesday night “One Chicago” programming remains one of NBC’s most consistent primetime blocks.

Despite fan concerns over recent character departures—especially in Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med—Wolf teased that the new seasons would introduce compelling characters and more serialized storytelling, offering both fresh dynamics and emotional depth.

“We’re excited about what’s next,” he added. “The universe is expanding, but it’s still rooted in what made it resonate in the first place.”

Production on all three shows is currently underway, with new seasons set to premiere this fall.
