The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the most polarizing teams in the NFL every single year. They aren't quite on the level of the Dallas Cowboys when it comes to the eyes they constantly have on them, but they are near the top.
And that is largely because of the brand they have built. They are one of the biggest brands in all of North American professional sports. The Raiders stand for and mean something to people everywhere in the world, and their culture that they built over their years of dominance in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s is why they are looked at the way they are.
Sure, they haven't had that kind of success lately. In fact, they haven't won a Super Bowl in 40 years and haven't won a playoff game in 20 years. But you didn't need me to remind you. But, it's because of the players they have had over the years, like Josh Jacobs, who is now on the Green Bay Packers, or Davante Adams, now on the Los Angeles Rams, paired with guys like Maxx Crosby, that have given them a ton of attention.
Now, they have even more attention on them, as Tom Brady, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots QB, and the greatest of all time, is a minority owner of the Raiders.
Brady brings enough attention himself, and what he has done, joining the Raiders ownership group, has put other celebrities on notice. A recent YouTube video by Complex showed that his friend Mark Wahlberg, the famous Boston native actor, wants to get into the ownership business as well.
"I live in Vegas, Tom just got a piece of the Raiders," Wahlberg started to say.
He went on to rant about why it would make sense for him to join the ownership group. And, honestly, that's just another thing the Raiders would have taken away from the Patriots.
