Even entering his second season, the Houston Texans stud quarterback C.J. Stroud, is already entering territory that most guys his age just do not reach. When you're like Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers, you will often hear people say that a young prospect is the next Mahomes or plays the same way - things of that nature.
But, those guys have won Super Bowls and been in the league for some time now. We are already hearing that with Stroud now, and he hasn't even played a snap in his second season yet. That is how good he is.
This newest quarterback class was a deep one that had a lot of young great talent. I'm not sure any of them, even Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, will be as good as Stroud. However, if there are any that are showing similarities to Stroud, it seems like one name is showing up a bit.
That's no other than Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.
"I have a history with C.J. Stroud, just knowing him and getting to know him and what he's made up of, and the adversity he went through at Ohio State, and it built him for what he was ready for now," Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin said to SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt.
"I think Jayden Daniels has a similar story to where he started out at Arizona State, goes to LSU, has a good first year, but that second year he takes off man and he wins the Heisman...I think that's a testament to his work ethic and how he tries to prepare each and every day in practice. He treats every practice and every rep like it's a game rep situation."
McLaurin is one of the best wide receivers in the league who has yet to have an elite quarterback to play with. But, if Daniels somehow turns out to be similar to Stroud, who is already a top-five quarterback in the league, then that would be amazing for his career.
Stroud and McLaurin know one another pretty well from Ohio State. McLaurin has seen Stroud play for some time now, and he's one of the few people who has gotten to see how Daniels has been this offseason. So, if he is giving him those minor comparisons, it may just be true. Only time will tell.
From everything we have seen, Daniels is already sharing some of the same off-the-field traits as Stroud, who just recently held his annual youth camp. The two young men seem to be guys the league can lean on for years to come. And, Stroud will likely only get better, as he now has even more weapons to play with, and already has good chemistry there.
