Owners of the Colorado Avalanche's ECHL Franchise Exploring Potential Sale of the Team

The Utah Grizzlies, ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Eagles, announced today that their ownership has started exploring a potential sale of the team.

A sale could result in a potential relocation of the team.

"The decision to explore a sale follows a period of transition for the team's longtime owners. After the passing of Dave Elmore in 2023, and amid the declining health of his wive and co-owner Donna Tuttle, the family's ability to remain actively involved in team operations has understandably diminished. Their devotion to community-centered sports and the stewardship of the Grizzlies has left a lasting impact on Utah's hockey landscape."

The Grizzlies have been affiliated with the Avalanche organization since the 2018-19 season, then coached by Tim Branham.

A possible location change could result in the loss of an ECHL affiliate for the Avalanche, potentially forcing the team to negotiate agreements with other clubs to loan players out for development purposes.

The club reassured fans that more news would be announced as "decisions unfold," but no sale has been completed yet and the 2025-26 season will go on as planned in Utah.
