According to long-time sports writer Gery Woelfel, the Green Bay Packers are going to host cornerback Trey Amos of Ole Miss for a pre-draft visit on Monday. As of now, 18 of the Packers’ 30 allotted pre-draft visits have been reported with a week and change to go until the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off. Amos is only the second major cornerback that the team has brought in, behind the injured Shavon Revel Jr. of East Carolina.
Amos’ health could push him up the board next week. Among the top nine cornerbacks on the consensus draft board, three of them — Will Johnson of Michigan, Revel and Benjamin Morrison of Notre Dame — each had season-ending injuries in 2024. Because of that, Texas’ Jahdae Barron, who very well might be a slot cornerback at the next level, rose to the mid-first round, and there’s a major question mark as to who will be the fourth cornerback off of the board two Thursdays from now.
Some project Amos to sneak into the end of the first round, but he’s currently ranked 40th on the consensus draft board, behind Travis Hunter, Johnson, Barron, Maxwell Hairston and Revel.
Reports have claimed that the Packers consider both Keisean Nixon and 2025 free-agent signing Nate Hobbs to be outside cornerbacks for their defense, but the fact that the team has brought in not only Amos but also Revel seems to suggest they’re keeping their options open. Of the 18 visits that Green Bay has brought in, they have all come at five positions: wide receiver, offensive line, defensive end, defensive tackle and cornerback. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to determine which positions they want to target in this draft.
Amos began his college career at the University of Louisiana, where he played for three years before transferring to Alabama in 2023. At Alabama, he was a backup outside cornerback behind a future first-round pick in Terrion Arnold and a future early second-round pick in Kool-Aid McKinstry. He then transferred to Ole Miss for his final season, where he earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2024.
