The Green Bay Packers are set to enter training camp and preseason action as one of the top potential contenders in the NFC. After making the playoffs in each of the last two years under Jordan Love, the team is hoping to take the next step.
While the Packers have been a contender over the last couple of years, they have been unable to make the necessary plays in the playoffs. There are still a couple of holes the team should look to fill to make sure that doesn't happen again.
One of those holes comes on the defensive side of the football. Green Bay could use a better pass rush.
Throughout the course of the NFL offseason, the Packers have been linked to multiple edge rushers. However, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office have declined to sign any of the proven pass rushers available.
Could they change course and make a late-offseason move to address the need?
With that in mind, one NFL analyst has suggested a bold trade for Green Bay. It would require pulling off a major deal with the New York Giants.
ESPN's Aaron Schatz has suggested a trade between the Packers and Giants that would feature young pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.
"Yes, New York can use an edge rusher rotation and get plenty of value out of him. It can create a NASCAR-style package where one of its edge rushers moves inside on third down," Schatz wrote. "But the Giants can also trade Thibodeaux to a contender that needs help on the edge, such as the Packers or the Lions, and probably get a Day 2 pick in return."
Obviously, this is not a report of talks. It's simply an idea that Green Bay could make sense as a trade partner if New York chose to trade him.
