Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs had the ride of his life on Sunday. Ahead of Sunday’s IndyCar Series race at Road America, Jacobs went for a ride in the “Fastest Seat in Sports.”
Road America is in Elkhart Lake, Wis. It made sense to have a Packer take part in the pre-race tradition, and why not Jacobs, Green Bay’s most productive player on offense.
Jacobs played all 17 games for the Packers last season, rushing for 1,329 yards and a career-high 15 touchdowns. He ranked in the top 10 in carries (301), rushing yards and touchdowns.
His best season statistically came in 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders. He totaled more than 1,600 rushing yards that season to go along with 12 touchdowns. Jacobs’ numbers dropped off in 2023, and the Raiders traded him to the Packers ahead of the 2024 season.
Josh Jacobs returns as focal point of Packers’ offense
He hit the ground running with the Packers last offseason and turned in one of his best seasons in the NFL. Packers running backs coach Ben Sirmans believes Jacobs looks even better heading into the 2025 campaign.
“His quickness right now, his cutting ability, going through drills, exploding. … I mean, he looks better this year than he did last year at this time,” Sirmans said last month ahead of the team’s OTAs. “The way that he practices is the same way that he plays. He’s looking to set the tone every opportunity he gets and to try to get people to follow and match that type of mentality.”
The Packers would like to not only return to the postseason this year but go further. They were eliminated in last season’s NFC Wild Card Round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Jacobs will be a major key to their success.
Jacobs is just the latest NFL star to lead the IndyCar field in the Fastest Seat in Sports. Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson teamed up for the Fastest Seat in Sports ahead of the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500.
