Defense, defense and . . . let's see here . . . defense will be the main focus for the Carolina Panthers offseason. But that doesn't mean they're going to neglect the other side of the ball.
According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the Panthers are among the handful of "likely suitors" for soon-to-be free agent wide receiver Darius Slayton. Leonard, in his column about the 28-year-old pass catcher from Monday, also named the Los Angeles Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers as other potentially-interested parties.
Slayton, a fifth-round pick from the 2019 NFL draft, has played each of his six pro campaigns with the New York Giants. The Auburn University product would make quite an impression right away—reeling in 48 receptions for 740 yards and a team-leading eight touchdowns as a rookie.
In the five years since, he's averaged 631.4 receiving yards per season with 13 scores.
His career average of 15.0 yards per reception should be awfully intriguing to the Panthers, who have been missing a legitimate downfield threat on offense. Carolina totaled 43 completions of at least 20 yards this past season, tied for the seventh-fewest in the NFL.
