There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Pat McAfee is by far the most famous punter in NFL history.
Since retiring from football he has managed to transform himself into a media juggernaut, but he was extremely popular before that because of the swagger and passion he played with on the field.
McAfee spent his entire eight year career with the Indianapolis Colts and because they don’t get much national attention from the media, he finds a way to talk about them on his shows whenever he can.
Most recently, he has gone viral for suggesting Indianapolis should pick up a star from the College World Series.
Arkansas Razorbacks pitcher Gage Wood captivated the nation during the College World Series when he threw a no-hitter.
That feat in itself is pretty rare, but to do it on the biggest stage in the sport is even more impressive.
There have only been 326 no-hitters in MLB history although the sport has been around for nearly 200 years and there are significantly less in the World Series.
The fact that Wood had the composure to put on that type of historic performance should signal that he will have a somewhat successful professional career.
McAfee was likely joking by suggesting the Colts should sign him, but it would be an intriguing proposition.
He would be pretty small for the quarterback position, but a pitcher playing football would likely showcase some serious arm strength.
It is a very farfetched idea, but it’s what makes McAfee and his shows so entertaining.
