Patrik Allvin officially announces an extension for Filip Hronek

There had been tons of speculation and trade rumours on the Canucks and their star defenceman Filip Hronek. The two parties finally came through.

The Canucks had made their deadline known, and it appears that they finally had a breakthrough. After an entire season with the Canucks, it looks like Filip Hronek liked the city enough to ink a maximum-term 8-year deal with the team. The Czech defenseman will have a $7.25M Cap hit totalling $58M until 2032.

The Canucks had an urgent need to find a right-handed defenseman to play alongside their captain Quinn Hughes. After playing over 70 games by the 43's side, it's fair to say that they make each other much better. Hronek went on to have a career-best season, and so did Quinn Hughes, who made his way amongst the NHL's best blueliners with a Norris Trophy nomination.

The Canucks now have $16.8M of cap space with 16 contracts. Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, and Dakota Joshua are contractless at the moment.
