Another day, another example of Pedro Pascal making the internet a slightly nicer place to be — and this time, it’s with the help of his longtime bestie Oscar Isaac, with the stars being praised for representing “non-toxic masculinity.”
For reference, the two men first met when they starred alongside one another in an off-Broadway show back in 2005. They became fast friends, and in 2020, Oscar revealed that they initially bonded over their shared passions and frustrations as Latino actors.
“It’s gotten better, but at that point, it was so easy to be pigeonholed in very specific roles because we’re Latinos,” he told Variety at the time. “It’s like, how many gang member roles am I going to be sent?”
“The dream was to be able to pay rent,” Oscar said of him and Pedro during the early days of their friendship. “There wasn’t a strategy. We were just struggling. It was talking about how to do this thing that we both love but seems kind of insurmountable.”
Oscar and Pedro’s relationship continued to thrive amid their respective successes, with Oscar getting his big break in 2013 when he played the titular role in Inside Llewyn Davis, earning a Golden Globe nomination. Meanwhile, Pedro first entered mainstream consciousness the following year, when he starred as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones.
In fact, the two are so close that in 2018, Oscar’s wife, Elvira Lind, referred to Pedro as her sister wife in an Instagram caption. Elvira met Oscar in 2012; they married in 2017 and share two sons.
And it was actually Elvira who took the photo that Pedro shared to his Instagram story on Sunday in honor of Oscar’s 46th birthday — causing a stir with his followers.
In the photo, the two men are enjoying an intimate cuddle in front of a beautifully scenic backdrop. Oscar is cradling Pedro and smiling while resting his head on his friend’s. Oscar’s hand is also visible on Pedro’s shoulder, and Pedro has channeled his inner Ariana Grande by reaching up to clasp onto Oscar’s thumb.
Of course, it didn’t take long for the photo to circulate on social media, where Pedro and Oscar were widely praised for not being afraid to be affectionate with one another. Discussing the post on a Reddit forum, one person wrote: “As a happily married straight man, this is the kind of friendship I would kill to have. Deep friendships filled with love are just deep friendships filled with love. Those friends are lucky to have each other.”
Another popular comment read: “More hot celebrity men known for playing tough guy/bad ass/strong man characters displaying ultra non-toxic masculinity please 🩷”
“I'm so over toxic masculinity. These two give me hope for the future,” somebody else echoed.
One more wrote: “I’m sorry, but the look in Pedro’s eyes is breaking me. Platonic relationships are so important and I love how much he celebrates his. Cherish the people around you, love and let them love you. ❤️❤️❤️”
“They're so cute. It's wonderful to see affectionate friendships between men,” another added.
Somebody else commented: “I just love that their friendship has lasted for decades & with their career lows to breakouts to highs,” while one more said: “I love that it’s always Oscar’s wife taking the cute pics too 🥰”
Pedro’s post comes shortly after he went viral for his iconic responses to angry trolls who commented that they were unfollowing him after he advocated for trans rights on Instagram. One of Pedro’s replies simply read: “nooooooooooo 💅,” and in another, he quipped: “that’s too bad. Wait, no I don’t give a shit.”
