It appears the Pittsburgh Penguins will be down one more man for their final game of the season on Thursday against the Washington Capitals.
On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang underwent successful surgery to repair a patent foramen ovale (PFO), or a small hole in the heart. He will be out for the remainder of the season with the expected recovery time estimated at 4-6 weeks.
Letang, eight days shy of his 38th birthday, produced nine goals and 30 points in 74 games for the Penguins this season. He is under contract with the Penguins for three more seasons at an average annual value of $6.1 million.
