Penguins Front Office Member Taken in PWHL Draft

Amanda Kessel has worked various roles over two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but her playing days might not be over yet. Montreal selected Kessel with the final pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft, which she had recently declared for.

Despite the declaration and eventual selection, Kessel is still listed on the Penguins website as a special assistant to the president and general manager. Kessel is expected to retain that role with the Penguins heading into the 2024-25 season.

Kessel hasn’t played competitive hockey since the 2023 World Championship, but she is still one of the best women in the game. Over her career, she has won 10 medals, including gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

When she arrived with the Penguins organization, Kessel stated that her days as a player likely weren’t over. She does, however, have the ultimate goal of one day becoming a general manager in the NHL.

If Kessel heads off to play with Montreal, she'll join a solid roster that features one of the best women hockey players of all time, Marie-Philip Poulin.
