Penguins Predicted to Land Connor McDavid Down the Line originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a strange spot as they enter the offseason. Title contention is the only thing fans care about, and right now, the Penguins aren't seen as contenders.
The organization is in a rebuild, but they could soon be competing once again. Pittsburgh is only a few moves away from this, and they could be eyeing one of the biggest stars in hockey today.
That would be Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, who will be entering the final year of his deal. If McDavid were to leave the Oilers, Pittsburgh could easily be seen as a landing spot.
NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report mentioned Pittsburgh as a possible spot for McDavid, linking the two sides together.
"Having the best players in the NHL is pretty much the Pittsburgh Penguins' calling card. Star power is in their DNA and has been for the past 40 years. Why not continue that legacy?
"Yes, the Penguins are in the early stages of a rebuild. They might not be particularly good during the 2025-26 season, and they might end up playing their way into the top of the draft lottery. Even with that being the case, general manager Kyle Dubas still seems adamant about competing again while Sidney Crosby is still playing," Gretz wrote.
Adding McDavid to the Penguins' legacy could be special. McDavid is the star of stars in the NHL, and he could single-handedly help turn the Penguins around.
Putting him alongside Sidney Crosby for his final few years would be fun to watch, and Crosby could help McDavid grow more as a player. Crosby understands how to win and assuming McDavid hasn't won a title yet, he could help him get over the hump.
This could be one of the better options for McDavid if he were to leave Edmonton. McDavid would also be heading to the Eastern Conference for a different challenge than that of the loaded West.
