As the Pittsburgh Penguins navigate a rocky start to the 2024-25 season, one of the trending topics surrounding the club is goaltending. However, it's not the only level of the organization that's had its fair of goalie storylines.
On Monday, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed netminder Luke Richardson to a professional try-out (PTO), and he'll report to the AHL after spending the past month on the roster of the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL.
In September, the Penguins signed the 25-year-old native of Barrie, ON, to a PTO, but he didn't make the club out of camp.
Before Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's next game against the Bridgeport Islanders on Wednesday, the baby Penguins will have veteran NHLer Tristan Jarry, Filip Larsson, and possibly Richardson as a goalie platoon.
Recently, the AHL club announced that they demoted one of the organization's top goalie prospects, Sergei Murashov, down to Wheeling. In one appearance, his first in North America, the young Russian netminder picked up a win while surrendering just one goal.
