Former Eagles return man Britain Covey finds a new spot with NFC team

Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey has found a new NFL home.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Covey signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, May 5.

Covey's presence will certainly be missed in Philly.

He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022 out of the University of Utah. Although he saw limited action on offense, Covey carved out a key role as the Eagles' primary punt returner. He finished the 2024 regular season recording 38 punt returns for 459 yards, averaging an impressive 12.1 yards per return, which ranked among the league’s best. His performance consistently helped the Eagles win the field position battle, and his longest return of the season exceeded 30 yards. Covey’s reliability and explosiveness have made him a valuable asset on special teams, and his production will be tough to match.

The Eagles turned to then-rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean to fill his shoes throughout last fall, though defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has made it abundantly clear he doesn't want his key nickel cornerback playing both roles.

How Philly fills Covey's void remains to be seen, but Avery Williams is one option. The Eagles also recently signed rookie undrafted free agent Giles Jackson, who has experience as a return specialist.

As for Covey, his role is projected to stay the same in Los Angeles.
