Players who were stars, but barely Flyers

Former goaltender, Sean Burke, once told a story about being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. He said his favorite moment in his career was being traded there, while his least favorite moment was landing in Philadelphia.

March 20, 2012; Philadelphia, PA USA; Florida Panthers goalie Scott Clemmensen (30) makes a save against Philadelphia Flyers right wing Jaromir Jagr (68) during the 3rd period of game at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Panthers defeated the Flyers, 2-1.

After flying into town, he hopped in a cab to get to the rink and a sports talk show was on the radio. The guests calling in voiced their opinions on the goalie. They called him a bum and a terrible goalie. The drastic change in emotions Burke felt were more than reasonable.

Philadelphia sports fans have no problem voicing their opinions, positive or negative. No one is immune to it, though some have not been around long enough to hear it. Others were not around long enough to even make an impression.

So, we have put together an all-time team of players who lasted no more than a single season as a Flyers. To clarify, Sean Burke is not on the team. He only played 26 games in Philly, but they were during two different seasons.

The forwards on the team have a ton of championships, awards, all-star nods, and even Hall of Fame credentials. In Philadelphia, things did not go as smoothly. The left wingers on this team racked up a total of 41 points as a Flyer, with 29 belonging to Geoff Sanderson.

Adam Oates is one of the first names that generally comes to mind, as does Paul Coffey. Coffey played parts of two seasons, but Adam Oates spent all of 14 games in Philly after being traded from the Washington Capitals.

Jagr had the most successful single season with 54 points in 73 games. He also had a positive effect on the team. When they saw his work ethic, it inspired players who worked harder to improve their conditioning.

Pull Jagr out of the mix, and the rest of the forwards have little to show for their time here.

Single-Season Defenders

Left Defenders

Right Defenders

Keith Yandle

Rob Ramage

Ulf Samuelsson

Pavel Kubina

Alexei Zhitnik

Matt Niskanen

All but two of these defenders came to Philadelphia to be put out to pasture, except for Alexei Zhitnik. He moved on to the Atlanta Thrashers, which may be a feat worse than death.

Cam Talbot

Petr Mrazek

Cam Talbot's career was middling when he came to Philadelphia. Four games resurrected his career as soon as he left. Mrazek's career was fine before and after his tenure in Philly. Sigh.

Yeah, Ryan Ellis. Sorry. He was good before he came here, good in his four games here, then everything blew up,
