Players with a chance to break out in 2024

The Arizona Cardinals enter the summer break looking ahead to a 2024 season in which there is a belief in the building that they can compete.

Coming off a four-win season, there have been improvements on the roster.

But what might make the difference is whether players in key positions break out and play at a high level in an increased role.

Who are some potential breakout players?

WR Michael Wilson

Wilson had an up-and-down rookie season. But even with inconsistencies, the third-round pick had 38 receptions for 565 yards while missing four games.

He has spent all offseason with Kyler Murray and is projected to be the team’s starting ‘Z’ receiver. With rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and tight end Trey McBride, no one is expecting a 1,000-yard season, but we could be eyeing a season of 800-900 yards.

LT Paris Johnson

Johnson had a solid rookie season at right tackle. Now he moves to the left side. Replacing D.J. Humphries, he could establish himself as the best young tackle in the league. He has that talent. A Pro Bowl will be hard with players like Trent Williams still dominating, but a breakout year would be playing at a Pro Bowl level even without the recognition.

OLB Zaven Collins and OLB BJ Ojulari

Fans don’t get it with Collins, but the coaching staff believes he can be a great edge player. He is in his second season playing the position and does some things quite well. He lacks the sack production. Even getting six to eight sacks would make him a rich man next offseason.

Ojulari, a second-round pick in 2023, gets his first full offseason after dealing with injuries as a rookie. He has added weight and strength. The Cardinals need at least one of them to become a consistent threat as a pass rusher off the edge.

CB Garrett Williams

Williams did not have any on-field work last offseason as a rookie recovering from a torn ACL. He has an expanded role this offseason after playing only in the slot last year. Many believe he could have been a first-round pick last year were it not for the ACL injury. He has a chance to prove he is a good starting cornerback.
