POWER GRABS & SHOCKING SECRETS! May 5, 2025 — DAYS Recap Unleashes New Villain Moves

Greetings! The big push this week on Days of Our Lives was for the cure to sepsis to save Bo’s life. Yeah, he’s still off-screen, but not for much longer. Steve convinced Kayla to help him swipe the cure from Dr. Jeffries’ lab. As a ruse, she sent the doctor to a conference because Steve cased the joint and realized the doctor came and went at all hours of the day. I was surprised that Kayla would go along with such an illegal activity, not only because it’s a crime, but also if the FDA finds out it was used on Bo (You know it’s gonna be successful), they won’t approve it, and thousands of patients won’t benefit from it.

But the bigger picture is the battle for the serum. Xander and Alex want Titan/DiMera to purchase the hospital so they can control (and benefit from) the cure. However, EJ got there first and offered to buy it from Kayla, but she turned him down. EJ felt that the cure would make enough money to keep the hospital solvent, as well as have some left over for him and Dr. Russell, so both sides are going to fight hard for control.

Elsewhere, Rafe told Gabi that he knew she took his gun because it was missing the night of EJ’s shooting, and then it was returned, but the gun hadn’t been fired. He asked her if she went to the DiMera mansion with it, and she admitted that she did. She had heard a male voice arguing with EJ, but didn’t hear a gunshot, and then she left. She also revealed that she saw Ava standing by the front door, who then turned around and sped off in a car when she got spotted.

And the question about whether or not Johnny shot EJ still hasn’t been answered. In Friday’s episode, EJ found Johnny at the pub, and his son reluctantly engaged him in conversation. EJ told him he forgave him, and the conversation insinuated that Johnny was the shooter, but it was never confirmed. Johnny told him point blank, “I hate you,” which was disheartening, but raised EJ’s ire. I think it’s more likely that Johnny chickened out, but saw who did shoot him, and has been keeping quiet about it. But it still doesn’t answer why Roman put the gun back, however, like I said last week, Johnny probably gave it back to him and explained what transpired at the DiMera mansion.

Tate explained to Sophia that she’s going to be 18 soon, after she was bemoaning her mother telling her what to do. He reminded her that she’ll then legally an adult and she can put the child up for adoption if she wants. She looks shocked at this. Is it me? I thought they had established this a while ago? It didn’t seem like new information to me. I know I heard them say it on the show before. Maybe they just have short memories.

Tate was really upset when he walked into the Brady pub and saw Holly hugging New Doug, and then stormed off. But we saw that someone was filming her talking to Doug after Tate left. So a new mystery arose! Who is this person, and why are they filming Holly and Doug? And they had black gloves on, as I noted when Mr. X was poisoning the Body & Soul cast and crew! My money’s on the fact that whoever’s filming them works for the dudes who Doug owes money to.

EJ found a get well card with the return address partially torn off, but realized it was from Stefan! But when they were last together, the brothers were at odds, so why would Stefan send him a card? Perhaps, because he’s presumably being held prisoner by Vivian, he managed to get an S.O.S. out, coded in the card. Was it even Stefan who sent it? Whatever the reason, it’s another new mystery to be solved.

EXTRA SCOOPS

NICE

Roman was super nice by taking pity on New Doug and not only offering him a job at the Brady Pub, but also one of the rooms above it. When Doug worried that he didn’t have any money, Roman told him he’d take it out of his pay little by little. What a great guy!

NAUGHTY

Xander was very naughty when he yelled at poor Felicity. He accused her of giving Sarah a scone that had pistacchio milk in them, which Sarah was allergic too and nearly went into anaphylactic shock. But, it turned out Chanel accidentally gave Sarah the vegan dessert, and she took full responsibility. Xander, however, did not fully apologize to the little girl.

LINE(S) OF THE WEEK

There were a lot of good lines this week. First up, Cat bumped into Marlena at the hospital and told her about the date with EJ. “Chad is pretty convinced that he has some kind of nefarious ulterior motive,” she said. Marlena replied, “Oh well, I wouldn’t put that past him.”

Rafe asked Leo, “What are you up to Leo?” He said he wasn’t up to anything, just doing his job, and then Rafe said, “What is your job, hmmm? Gossip columnist? Soap writer? Oh, wait, maybe it’s home-wrecking grifter?”

Leo said, “Wow, okay, that was, like, extremely aggro and super unpleasant to hear, so I will respond in a way that is very earnest and even-keeled. I am none of those things any longer. I am now a journalist for The Spectator on a mission to find out which rapscallion shot Elvis Aaron DiMira.” I had never heard the word ‘aggro’ before and coincidentally it soon after popped up on something else I was watching. Strange.

Rafe basically told Leo he wasn’t gonna let Gabi be railroad again and sent to jail for a crime she didn’t commit, adding, “So I will be damned if I’m gonna sit back and let her be railroaded a third time by some two-bit hack who has been given carte blanche to spread libelous garbage.” Of course, Leo’s pithy response was, “If my sympathetic nervous system wasn’t so activated right now, I might compliment you on your scathing verbiage. But unfortunately, I’m in the fight-or-flight response.”

New Doug applied for a job at the Brady Pub, and Roman said to him that while he’s filling out the application, So anyways, Roman says to him while he’s filling out the application, Roman says to him, “Word of caution: if you put down the Yankees as your favorite team…probably not gonna go well for you.“

Leo expressed his concern that Javi’s ‘heart is too big,’ and told him, “But if you continue to work for Salem’s answer to Miranda Priestley a.k.a. the Prada wearing devil played by the one and only divine Meryl Streep. It could ruin your relationship with Gabi forever.”

There was a laugh-out-loud moment when Shawn called Rafe and asked him to bring back his service revolver. Rafe reminded him, “Oh, you mean the one that they issued to Arnold Feniger, not me? Yeah, I’ll bring it back when I can.” And then Shawn hangs up and says, “Well, that was awkward.”

Leo walked into the police station and encountered Shawn and Jada and said, “So, this is what it feels like walking into Salem’s cop shop without being in handcuffs. Not that I mind handcuffs on occasion.”

EJ was talking to Dr. Russell, who asked him why he didn’t just save the hospital when it was first announced that it was financially in trouble. EJ said he had to get all his ducks in a row first, “And then that pesky shooting derailed my timeline. But now that I have everything in order, I’m ready to pull the trigger. That was a joke. Feel free to laugh.”

Belle bumped into Phillip in the square and asked him if he was OK. He answered, “Just dandy. A little wiped from my apology tour, though.”

Sara was cute trying to get Xander to relax. She convinced him to lie on the couch with cucumber slices on his eyelids, to show him how a nice, relaxing spa day could be. She said, “I bet you’re feeling less tense already.” He replied, “I am feeling like a salad.”

When Kayla turned down EJ’s offer to buy the hospital, he said, “You’ll come crawling back soon enough. Pray that I’m just as generous when you do.”

EJ told Marlena that with him, Belle was in good hands. She said, “You mean hands that squeeze somebody so tightly that it just squeezes the very life out of them? You know, like happened with Sami.”

Leo asked Javi if he’d given any thought to quitting working for Gabi. Javi said no, and Leo responded, “Seems like a no-brainer to me. It’s not like the SATs. You got one box asking, ‘Am I miserable,’ the other box asking, ‘Am I not miserable,’ and I think we both know which box you would tick off.”

Leo thought Javi was being weird for not wanting the accolades from saving Sarah’s life, and wondered, “Normally, you’re this open book who’s willing to tell me everything. Your worries, your fears, the story of that creepy mall Santa who asked if you wanted to, quote, ‘see his “North Pole.’ ”

It was funny watching Chad and Cat try to figure out a date that was not romantic. Chad said, “We’ll just have to come up with something that’s completely platonic and not very romantic.” Cat responded, “Yeah, we’re gonna have to pick up trash on the side of the road.” Chad replied that was, “Very depressing,” so she chose skydiving.

When Xander offered Johnny a job at Titan/DiMera, Johnny asked if he was doing that to get to EJ. Xander responded, “Would that be a dealbreaker?”

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Hero Javi! It turns out Javi had trained to be a firefighter, but we won’t find out his reasons for quitting for a while since he refused to tell Leo. But he reacted quickly and decisively when Sarah was having her issue, and he realized she was having an allergic reaction. He used her EPIPen on her and saved her life. What a guy!

Good for New Doug for trying to change his station in life and applying for a job at the Pub. Of course, the baddies had knocked his door down last week looking for more money, but I feel he’s following the same trajectory as Original Doug. It will be fun to watch him grow and evolve over the years like his namesake and make something out of his life. But New Doug needs a little something more. As the action heroes are getting older, perhaps Steve can give him some fighting lessons and Dougie can be one of the next defenders of Salem.

Kayla told Sara that she turned down EJ’s offer to buy the hospital. Kayla was surprised that Sara had a look on her face like she was happy that he was going to buy the hospital. Ultimately, Sara said, “Well, you’re the chief of staff, so the ball’s in your court.” But does the Chief of Staff really make that decision? Shouldn’t the board of directors make that decision?

Chad and Cat are starting to become cuter and cuter together. EJ won a date with her through the fundraiser and agreed to pass it on to Chad. He even hinted that Chad might have feelings for her. When Sarah was having her allergic reaction to the scone she was eating, Cat jumped in and called 911, as well as defending Felicity from the accusing Xander. Seeing Chad, Cat, and Felicity together as a unit made them look like a natural family, and it will be really nice, especially for Chad’s kids, if the two get together.

So we’ve got a couple of new mysteries beginning: who’s filming Holly and New Doug, and who sent EJ the letter from Stefan?

The week ended with Chanel asking Johnny point-blank if he shot his father. So we shall find out next week!
