Speaking at a recent press conference via GamesRadar+, Mazin expressed his excitement for fans to see how they brought to life one of the most iconic scenes from the video game. The scene in particular involves Joel surprising Ellie on her 16th birthday with a trip to the Wyoming Museum. "I mean, this is not a spoiler. In the trailer, you see Pedro and Bella both by the space capsule in the museum, and that scene is the first thing that [co-showrunner Neil Druckmann] ever showed me from Part 2," he revealed. 'It's beautiful, and watching them kind of inhabit that and make it their own was pretty spectacular. Pretty spectacular, pretty good."
Pascal also opened up about his emotional experience filming The Last of Us Season 2, admitting that he actually had a difficult time separating himself from his character. "My mindset was grateful for being back, yet, at the same time, this experience, more than any other I've had, is hard for me to separate what the characters are going through and how it makes me feel in a way that isn't very healthy," he said. For his performance as Joel Miller in Season 1, Pascal received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Best Actor.
Isabela Merced will appear as Dina, along with Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, and Catherine O'Hara. The latter is reportedly guest-starring as Joel’s therapist. The official synopsis for Season 2 reads, "Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind."
Kaitlyn Dever Reacts to Casting Controversy
According to Dever, she placed a lot of focus on getting Abby’s emotional journey right. "I want to do this character justice and make the fans proud by bringing her to life in this kind of way," she explained. "My main focus was making sure I was really getting to the core of who she is and what drives her and her emotional state."
The Last of Us Season 2 debuts on April 13 on HBO.
