Preview: Avs take on the Blues in a Matinee Matchup

Colorado Avalanche vs St. Louis Blues

After beating the Los Angeles Kings by a final score of 4-0 on Thursday night, and extending their win streak to four games, the Colorado Avalanche take on the St. Louis Blues today in a matinee game. This will be the third of four regular-season matchups between these two teams, with each team having previously won a game.

Colorado Avalanche

As previously mentioned, the Colorado Avalanche are coming off of a win against the LA Kings, winning by a final score of 4-0. Mackenzie Blackwood posted his fourth shutout of the season in that game, and Martin Necas scored twice as well to help Colorado secure their fourth win in a row. Erik Johnson might possibly draw into the lineup but we’ll have to wait until warmups.

Now, they welcome the St. Louis Blues to Denver for a matinee matchup. This is an incredibly important game for both teams, as Colorado is looking to continue their win streak, and the Blues are looking to continue their push toward the playoffs.

Projected Lineup

St. Louis Blues

The Blues have won eight games straight coming into this matchup with the Avs, and have found themsevles in the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. While they do currently have a four point lead on the Vancouver Canucks, they are still looking to add to that lead to hopefully secure that second wild card spot as we get closer to the playoffs.

Goaltenders

For today’s game, the goalie matchup will likely be Mackenzie Blackwood against Jordan Binnington. Blackwood comes into this game off of a shutout against the LA Kings, as previously mentioned, and Binnington comes into this game of of a stretch of really solid play as the Blues have made a push to end up in the playoffs. Blackwood will need to play just as well as he did last game to secure the win here this afternoon.
