Preview: Winnipeg Jets at Pittsburgh Penguins

The Winnipeg Jets (16-3-0) ended their first multi-game losing streak of the campaign with a gritty performance against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers, helping the True Northers to remain in the top spot of the National Hockey League. While the Pittsburgh Penguins (7-10-4) have struggled out of the gate in 2024-25 and have lost 6 of their last 8 outings to sit with the 7th least points in the league.

The Jets will be heading out on their longest road trip of the season (6 gms) that also includes Winnipeg’s first back-to-back game situation of the year. As a result of that, I would expect backup Eric Comrie to be in the crease for one of the next two contests….will it be against the Pens tonight or the Preds on Saturday??

Here is how PuckPedia is predicting Pittsburgh & Winnipeg to line up their players this evening:

I am looking forward to watching Manitoba-born Owen Pickering suit up for the Penguins, as the 20 yr old defenseman will be getting into his 3rd NHL game (2 gms/1 asst).

Time to check out how the two franchises compare head-to-head based on this season’s stats and to check out ESPN’s review of the masked men:

Looking at the stats, you would think the Winnipeg Jets have to be considered heavy favourites coming into tonight’s clash, with a large advantage in goals scored/allowed per game….but games aren’t won on the stat sheets. So tune in at 6 pm CST to find out if the Jets can knock off the Penguins this evening.
