Pro Football Focus doubts Eagles' running back room in new rankings

Pro Football Focus recently gave the Philadelphia Eagles' wide receiver room the recognition it deserved by ranking them No. 1 overall in the NFL, but they're not doing the same when it comes to their the running back room.

Instead, Philly's running back room, led by star rusher Saquon Barkley, sits at No. 4 on PFF's list -- even after their incredible Super Bowl run powered by the backfield.

Where the Eagles fall short, per PFF, is in their backups with AJ Dillon and Will Shipley.

Here's what PFF had to say about the Eagles ranking No. 4:

4. Philadelphia Eagles

Saquon Barkley’s incredible 2024 season alone earns Philadelphia a high mark on this list. Postseason included, Barkley rushed for more than 2,500 yards last season while forcing 83 missed tackles and generating an astonishing 55 explosive runs.

AJ Dillon and Will Shipley will be Barkley’s backups in 2025. Dillon missed all of last season due to a neck injury but earned a solid 76.1 PFF rushing grade in 2023. Shipley tallied just 34 carries during his rookie campaign but could be the team’s primary kick returner this season.

PFF ranks the Atlanta Falcons (No. 3), Detroit Lions (No. 2), and Baltimore Ravens (No. 1) before Philly.

Regardless of where PFF ranks Philly, the Eagles’ backfield is looking stacked going into 2025, and it all starts with Barkley.

Sure, Dillon missed all of last season but if he’s healthy, he can definitely contribute. Shipley, who didn’t get many chances as a rookie, is expected to play a bigger role on special teams and could be the main kick returner. That will give him the extra reps he needs to become a depth threat.

As long as all three of Philly's rushers can stay healthy, they are poised to make PFF’s rankings look ridiculous once again.
