The first-ever Walter Cup was rewarded last night to the PWHL's Minnesota team after their 3-0 win over Boston.
Minnesota is now the first team ever to win the PWHL Championship after they beat Boston in game five. It was a long road to the Walter Cup Finals but Minnesota has now won it all.
Boston won the first game of the best-of-five series but Minnesota won the next two. They thought they had won game four on home ice in front of over 13,000 fans but the goal was overturned for goaltender interference. Boston scored minutes later to end the game in double overtime.
This forced a game five back in Boston. But Minnesota came on top with a 3-0 win to secure the first-ever Walter Cup.
There will be a new banner hung in the rafters of the Xcel Energy Center next year and it will belong to the PWHL Minnesota team.
