QB CUT: Saints Release Ben DiNucci After Quiet Offseason Stint

Saints have released QB Ben DiNucci - Canal Street Chronicles

The New Orleans Saints have officially released quarterback Ben DiNucci, ending a brief and uneventful chapter between the journeyman signal-caller and the NFC South franchise.

DiNucci, who signed with the Saints earlier this offseason, was seen as a potential third-string option or practice squad depth behind the likes of Derek Carr and Jake Haener. However, with the team looking to tighten up the quarterback room and invest more reps into developmental prospects, DiNucci found himself on the outside looking in.

A former seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, DiNucci gained brief national attention when he was unexpectedly thrust into a starting role due to injuries in Dallas. While his NFL stats haven’t been eye-popping, he revitalized his career in the XFL with the Seattle Sea Dragons, leading the league in passing yards and showing improved poise and accuracy.

His performance there earned him another NFL shot — this time with the Saints. But after a quiet showing during offseason workouts and rookie minicamp, the coaching staff ultimately decided to move on.

The release of DiNucci likely signals confidence in the existing depth chart. It also opens the door for the Saints to explore other backup options or give more opportunities to undrafted rookies or developmental quarterbacks already on the roster.

Though he’s no longer in New Orleans, DiNucci’s journey may not be over. With several NFL teams still looking for experienced depth under center, he could get another call before training camp kicks into full gear.

One thing’s clear: Ben DiNucci remains a fighter — and if history tells us anything, he won’t stay unsigned for long.
