Raiders' former first-round pick signed with AFC West division foe

Over the past few regimes, the Las Vegas Raiders have faced significant challenges in their player drafting. Both the Dave Ziegler-Josh McDaniels era and the Jon Gruden era were marked by numerous unsuccessful picks.

Who knows, the guys they drafted the last two years could very well end up being misses right now, too. But for right now, it seems they are on good trajectories.

One guy the Raiders for sure missed on a few years ago was offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood, whom they drafted in the first round in the 2021 NFL Draft with the 17th overall pick.

Leatherwood did not pan out, and in fact, he was released a few offseasons ago because he just could not get the offensive tackle position down. He was later signed to the Chicago Bears, and it didn't work there either.

Now, he is back in the AFC West with one of the Raiders' biggest rivals.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Los Angeles Chargers have signed Leatherwood.

Now, I feel like we have seen everything we need to know, and he shouldn't have been picked in the first round. But that's not to say he can't revive his career and make himself a very serviceable tackle going forward. Knowing the kind of guy he is, you have to wish Leatherwood the best.
