The Las Vegas Raiders traded for two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith this offseason. New general manager John Spytek felt that he was an upgrade over Garner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell, so the team sent a third-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Smith's talents.
Smith also won the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2022 after earning the starting job under head coach Pete Carroll. With Carroll now in Las Vegas, the two are reunited with the Raiders.
Not only has Smith enjoyed a resurgence later in his NFL career, but his cousin, Jeremiah Smith, has become popular as a star wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
During his freshman season with the Buckeyes, under Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly no less, Jeremiah Smith had one of the most productive campaigns in the country. He caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, as well as another 47 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground.
As Jeremiah Smith has continued to be hyped up heading into his sophomore season at Ohio State, Geno Smith sent his cousin a message on social media.
"All ball," Geno Smith wrote.
This season, Geno Smith will have the opportunity to show out under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly as well. Jeremiah Smith, however, will have to adapt to both a new play-caller and quarterback for the Buckeyes.
Las Vegas opens up their season against the New England Patriots in Week 1, and Ohio State will begin their season with a major test against the Texas Longhorns in late August.
