The NFL offseason is quickly approaching the 2025 draft and one team that is desperately trying to turn their franchise around is the Las Vegas Raiders.
Las Vegas finished last in the AFC West last season as they ended the year with a disappointing 4-13 record.
Of course, quarterback play was one of the Raiders’ biggest issues last season as Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell and Desmond Ridder struggled, but that may change next season.
The Raiders made a trade with the Seattle Seahawks in March to bring in quarterback Geno Smith to the franchise to pair him alongside his former head coach Pete Carroll who was hired as Las Vegas’ new head coach.
Smith was great for the Seahawks over the last three seasons and the Raiders now hope that he can help turn their franchise around.
On Monday, it was reported that Smith signed a two-year, $75 million extension with Las Vegas that will pay him an average of $37.5 million per season and could rise to over $42 million per season if he hits the incentives.
After the deal was done, the Raiders made a two-word statement on social media.
“Done deal,” Las Vegas posted on X following Smith’s extension.
Of course, this is a risky deal for the Raiders as Smith is 34 years old and has dealt with injury issues, especially last season, but it is clear that Las Vegas has found their quarterback for the next three seasons.
Smith is coming off a season in Seattle in which he threw for a career-high 4,320 yards to go along with 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
He now joins the Raiders as they look to become a contender once again, but with Smith now on the team, Las Vegas has filled their biggest hole from the last few seasons.
