Here's why the Rangers should look to target Max Pacioretty with training camp on the horizon.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, The Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in signing forward Max Pacioretty.
If things fall though with Toronto, the Rangers should at the very least look into signing Pacioretty.
Bringing in Pacioretty would be a low risk, high reward type of move for the Rangers.
In his prime with the Montreal Canadiens, Pacioretty was a consistent 30-goalscorer who had an incredible shot and smooth offensive touch.
Over the past couple of seasons, the veteran forward has suffered two major achilles injuries that has hindered his time on ice tremendously. The 35-year-old has played just 52 games through the past two years.
Pacioretty is a natural goalscorer though and those abilities don’t go away. Some may forget that he recorded 19 goals, 18 assists and 37 assists in only 39 games for the Vegas Golden Knights during the 2021-22 season.
There is no reason why the Rangers shouldn’t pursue Pacioretty. The team doesn't even need to necessarily sign him to a fully guaranteed contract as there is the option to give him a professional tryout with the limited interest he is currently garnering.
If the Rangers were to sign him and it didn't work out, there would be no harm done at all, but if Pacioretty was able to get back to his old form, New York would have another reliable goalscorer on their hands.
