Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16, Episode 5 Recap: Kenya Moore’s Swan Song

The apology tour started the day after Angela’s dinner. She went over to Shamea’s house and admitted that she “acted a fool” when she made the gun threat. According to Brit, she lost sleep over it.

“I would never want her to feel like I want to harm her,” Angela said.

Later, Brit met up with Porsha and regurgitated the same talking points. However, she told Porsha that Kenya wasn’t completely innocent. She felt convinced the RHOA veteran was trying to “haze” her.

On top of all of this, Brit also revealed that her aunt just passed away, adding another layer to her complicated emotional state. In a perfect world, they could have come back from this, but Kenya was already across town running a background check on this girl.

Kenya put the finishing touches on her hair spa

Last week, Kenya tearfully told Kelli how she poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the Kenya Moore Hair Spa and felt nervous that it wouldn’t be successful. This week, we saw her gearing up for the grand opening, and it was impossible not to feel a deep sense of dread watching this.

Kenya seemed so excited about this event. They already had a soft launch, but she was eager to put on a major event to really get the word out about her business. Still, the Brit situation was weighing on her, so Kelli and Porsha stopped by to talk.

Porsha and Kelli acted like they didn’t hear the pistol comment, but they seemed empathetic with Kenya. No one in their right mind would condone what Brit said.

When reflecting on Brit’s threats, Kenya told her friends that she had “too much to lose.” With that in mind, she said she was going to run a background check on the RHOA newbie. She said it with a laugh, but unfortunately, she wasn’t joking.

Angela’s family crisis

Every week, we learn a little more about Angela, and every week, we get a little more stressed out for her. Not only is her marriage in a questionable state, but so is the dynamic with the rest of her family.

In Episode 4, she revealed that she had a complicated relationship with her sister, whose name is Alicia. It turns out, Angela also has an unstable situation with her 25-year-old daughter, Ahmauri.

The two met up for coffee, and Ahmauri told Angela an insane story about how she got confronted by her aunt. Apparently, Aunt Alicia called her a demon. Her grandma didn’t stand up for her. It sounded like a mess, and Angela was shocked to hear all of it. Plus, all of these people live in a house that Angela bought.

Adding another twist to the story, Angela revealed that her daughter eloped. Four months of marriage went by before Angela found out about it. The whole situation is wild, but at this point, all we can do is hope for the best.

Kenya Moore Hair Spa’s Grand Opening

It was hard to even focus on Angela’s meeting with her daughter because we were ready for the main event of this episode, which was Kenya Moore Hair Spa’s grand opening.

Of course, Kenya pulled out all the stops and made this as over-the-top as possible. There was press everywhere and cheerleaders. We all saw the red carpet photos last summer! Kenya even managed to score a cameo from Miss Lawrence. This was a big deal.

Kenya hired models, champagne was flowing, and they had a fantasy hair battle like the Bronner Bros. Beauty Show. It seemed like a genuine good time, and then Drew showed up.

Out of nowhere, Drew tried confronting Porsha about the situation with Dennis. She seemed like she really wanted to sweep this under the rug, but Porsha wasn’t having it. Either way, it all paled in comparison to what happened next.

Kenya’s posters left everyone shocked

Everyone assumed that Brit wouldn’t be attending the spa’s grand opening, but she surprised everyone by showing up with a bouquet of flowers and an apology. However, it was a little too late. Kenya completely ignored Brit and called for everyone’s attention. Brit took that as her cue to leave.

“This has been a labor of love. I built this salon for my daughter,” Kenya began, before taking things completely off the rails

Kenya’s speech went from celebratory to defensive. She said that she felt “sick” of people trying to bring her down and told the entire room about Brit’s gun threat. Then, it happened. The stunt played out exactly like what we heard in the headlines.

Kenya pulled out a series of poster boards with suggestive photos of Brit, and honestly, whichever Office Depot employee helped her make these posters needs to step forward. We have questions.

Each time Kenya pulled out a new poster, she lost more and more of the room. You could hear a combination of groans and gasps. The main thing missing from the room? Laughter.

Kelli walked out of the building along with her 10-person entourage, and it was like everyone knew this was about to get worse. When Kenya pulled out the final poster board, which allegedly showed Brittany engaging in oral sex, it was like a bomb went off. Shamea, Cynthia, and Angela all told Kenya that things had gone too far, but Kenya didn’t want to hear it.

What happened after Kenya put Brit on blast?

After Kenya pulled her stunt, most of the cast left the spa. It seemed like everyone knew that things just crossed a line. Meanwhile, Kenya was inside, still standing ten toes down on her decision to air out Brit’s dirty laundry.

Cynthia seemed completely baffled by what had just happened. She looked at Kenya and scolded her. She said, “I really hate that you lt that end this way. I think you’re bigger than that.”

In the end, Drew was the only cast member still standing by Kenya’s side. Everyone else got the hell out of there like the building was on fire. That might have actually been a better ending.

The episode concluded with a message from Bravo confirming that Episode 5 was Kenya’s final episode. The message read, “Based on Kenya’s behavior, the decision was made to cease filing with her this season.”
